This panel will share what it takes to understand structural and systemic barriers; intentionally engage community partners; center worker and business voices in shaping policies and programs; and align programs and resources that support the whole person in training for and advancing in a career. \nFeaturing: \nMichelle Wilson\, Director of Evaluation and Learning\, National Fund for Workforce Solutions \nFollowed by discussion with: \n-Tracey Carey\, Executive Director\, Midwest Urban Strategies\,\n-Sheridan Nixon\, Assistant Vice Chancellor\, Workforce Programs\, Dallas College\n-Brandee Davis\, Director\, Economic & Financial Mobility\, United Way of Greater Nashville \nModerator: \nNakeisha Ricks\, Senior Fellow\, Workforce Development\, National Skills Coalition URL:https://nationalskillscoalition.org/event/developing-a-more-inclusive-and-equitable-workforce-system/ CATEGORIES:Event,Webinar ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/png:https://nationalskillscoalition.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/SS-Banner.png END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/New_York:20220607T153000 DTEND;TZID=America/New_York:20220607T170000 DTSTAMP:20241202T020014 CREATED:20220518T162533Z LAST-MODIFIED:20220609T181656Z UID:10000115-1654615800-1654621200@nationalskillscoalition.org SUMMARY:Summit Sequels: People Powered Infrastructure DESCRIPTION:Last year\, the federal government made a nearly trillion-dollar investment in physical infrastructure including roads\, bridges and transit. This investment is projected to create millions of new jobs. How do we make sure that workers most impacted by the pandemic have access to those jobs? And how can workforce strategies ensure that infrastructure jobs and related career advancement opportunities are available to people of color and women who are underrepresented in the field? In this Summit Sequel\, you will learn about federal workforce policy and funding opportunities connected to recent investments in transportation infrastructure. You will also hear how perspectives on how training investments can drive more equitable access to infrastructure careers. \nModerator: Brooke DeRenzis\, Chief Strategy Officer\, National Skills Coalition \nFeaturing:\n-Molly Bashay\, Policy Advisor\, U.S. Department of Labor \n-Paige Shevlin\, Strategic Advisor for Infrastructure Workforce Development\, U.S. Department of Transportation \nPanelists:\n-Héctor Huezo\, California Director\, Jobs to Move America \n-Randy Stamper\, Associate Vice Chancellor for Career Education and Workforce Programs\, Virginia Community College System \n-Xinge Wang\, Deputy Director\, International Transportation Learning Center \nNSC Resources: \nMegan Evan’s Blog on the transportation provisions \nPublication on career pathways \nPeople Powered Infrastructure landing page \nOther Resources: \nDOT’s page on implementing the bipartisan infrastructure law \nCRISI funding \nNGA factsheet \nDOL News Release \nProvisions in the infrastructure bill \nPast grantees of CRISI funding \nTechnical assistance and community of practice in CA: \nhttps://cows.org/wp-content/uploads/sites/1368/2018/08/Case_Study_3.pdf \nhttps://www.transportcenter.org/zeb/detail_view/question-6 \nJobs to Move America’s US Employment plan \nWork on community benefits agreements with bus and rail car manufacturers: \nCWIT/TLC piece on recruiting women in to transit jobs: URL:https://nationalskillscoalition.org/event/summit-sequels-people-powered-infrastructure/ CATEGORIES:Event,Webinar ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://nationalskillscoalition.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Summit-Sequels-Featured-1.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/New_York:20220601T153000 DTEND;TZID=America/New_York:20220601T163000 DTSTAMP:20241202T020014 CREATED:20220428T205656Z LAST-MODIFIED:20220825T195527Z UID:10000114-1654097400-1654101000@nationalskillscoalition.org SUMMARY:Summit Sequels: Making Skills Training Affordable for Working Adults DESCRIPTION:Affordable\, high-quality education and training is essential for an inclusive economic recovery. Too often\, however\, financial assistance programs are not accessible to working adults or fail to incorporate in-demand skills training. Some states have taken the lead in developing strategies that address these barriers\, including through college promise programs\, cross-system partnerships\, and alignment of federal and state funding streams. This panel discussion will share creative approaches to expanding affordable access to skills training at community colleges and the economic and equity imperative driving these solutions. Panelists will examine the actions needed at the state and federal levels to make the spectrum of high-quality education and training accessible for more people\, including strategies to build political and public will. \nModerator:\n– Lindsey Reichlin Cruse \nPanelists:\n– Kenyatta Lovett\, Managing Director for Higher Education\, Educate Texas\, Communities Foundation of Texas \n– Deniece Thomas\, Deputy Commissioner\, TN Dept of Labor and Workforce Development \n– Girard Melancon\, CEO/Founder of Durango Works and National Skills Coalition Board Chair \nNSC Resources: \nA foundational report guiding NSC’s advocacy work: \nState Pathways publication from NSC \nNSC’s listening sessions about workforce system transformation \nNSC Blog on higher education: \nOther Resources: \nFit First Technologies URL:https://nationalskillscoalition.org/event/summit-sequels-making-skills-training-affordable-for-working-adults/ CATEGORIES:Event,Webinar ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://nationalskillscoalition.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Summit-Sequels-Featured-1.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/New_York:20220509T140000 DTEND;TZID=America/New_York:20220509T150000 DTSTAMP:20241202T020014 CREATED:20220420T163757Z LAST-MODIFIED:20220608T162253Z UID:10000109-1652104800-1652108400@nationalskillscoalition.org SUMMARY:Holistic Support Services Advance Economic Mobility and Educational Attainment DESCRIPTION: URL:https://nationalskillscoalition.org/event/summit-sequels-holistic-support-services-advance-economic-mobility-and-educational-attainment/ CATEGORIES:Event,Webinar ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://nationalskillscoalition.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/summit-sequels-2.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/New_York:20220428T163000 DTEND;TZID=America/New_York:20220428T173000 DTSTAMP:20241202T020014 CREATED:20220420T164439Z LAST-MODIFIED:20220825T195145Z UID:10000111-1651163400-1651167000@nationalskillscoalition.org SUMMARY:Illinois 2022 WIOA Summit DESCRIPTION:Digital Equity Act: New Federal Investment & What it Means for the WIOA System \nCongress passed the $2.75 billion Digital Equity Act as part of infrastructure legislation last year. Home health aides need to enter patient information via iPads; retail store workers are using price-change and inventory-control apps; construction workers have to submit work-order changes using mobile apps for blueprint technology; and truck drivers don’t get paid if they can’t navigate their online payroll system correctly. But not all workers are confident in their digital skills — even if they work in jobs that require them. What does the data tell us about workers’ digital skill needs? Get an overview of key data from the national OECD Survey of Adult Skills (PIAAC) and find out how one Illinois organization is responding to digital skill needs among workforce system staff\, jobseekers\, and adult learners alike. \n  \nSpeakers: \nAmanda Bergson-Shilcock\, National Skills Coalition \nMichael Matos\, Illinois Digital Learning Lab/CCLC URL:https://nationalskillscoalition.org/event/illinois-2022-wioa-summit/ CATEGORIES:Webinar ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://nationalskillscoalition.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/wioaa.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/New_York:20220427T083000 DTEND;TZID=America/New_York:20220427T093000 DTSTAMP:20241202T020014 CREATED:20220330T163103Z LAST-MODIFIED:20220504T150307Z UID:10000164-1651048200-1651051800@nationalskillscoalition.org SUMMARY:Champions for Education 2022 DESCRIPTION:The Champions for Education webinar forum will be held via Zoom on Wednesday\, April 27th. This report explores the extent to which technology and automation are changing the nature of work and explains why education and higher-order skills such as critical thinking and problem-solving are becoming increasingly important to meet the level of cognitive demand in middle-skill jobs. The authors argue that these higher-order skills rely upon a strong foundation of literacy and numeracy skills which is often overlooked. \nThis webinar will highlight the report’s findings on: \n\nCurrent U.S. adults’ literacy and numeracy skill levels using data from the Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) and student reading and math skill levels from the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)\nThe increasing skill demands for many middle-skill occupations using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ O*NET\n\nPresenters will discuss the need to bridge the divide between the kinds of skills workers need and the skills many currently have. Also presented will be a theory of action designed to improve the literacy\, numeracy and digital skills of adults that will help put them on pathways for future educational and occupational growth. \nRegistrants will be given the opportunity to submit questions during the webinar. \n  \nSpeakers: \nPresenter: Dr. Irwin Kirsch\, Director\, Center for Global Assessment\, ETS \nDiscussant: Mr. Paul Fain\, Journalist\, The Job Newsletter \nModerator: Ms. Amanda Bergson-Shilcock\, Senior Fellow\, National Skills Coalition URL:https://nationalskillscoalition.org/event/upskilling-american-workers-for-middle-skill-jobs-requires-a-strong-foundation/ CATEGORIES:Webinar ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/png:https://nationalskillscoalition.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/rise-e1649259288212.png END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/New_York:20220412T130000 DTEND;TZID=America/New_York:20220412T141500 DTSTAMP:20241202T020014 CREATED:20220216T193923Z LAST-MODIFIED:20220825T195444Z UID:10000168-1649768400-1649772900@nationalskillscoalition.org SUMMARY:Gearing Up for the Digital Equity Act with Libraries DESCRIPTION:Download Slides\nHosted by National Skills Coalition in partnership with American Library Association and Public Library Association\nThe Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act includes a historic investment in advancing digital equity\, and an opportunity for libraries to leverage and expand their roles in that work.
